A Logistics Manager plays a crucial role in the logistics industry as they oversee and manage the operations of supply chain processes. They are responsible for the smooth flow of goods, from order and storage to transport and final delivery to the customers. This involves planning, coordinating and monitoring logistics operations such as warehousing, inventory, transportation and supply chain processes. Key responsibilities also include liaising and negotiating with suppliers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers.
Important skills for a Logistics Manager include strong communication, organizational, and decision-making skills, as well as proficiency in logistics software. They should have an understanding of customer service and have the ability to manage multiple tasks at once. It is often required that they hold a certification such as the Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) from APICS.
