iHire's Job X-ray: Resume and Job Description Matching Made Easy
When applying to jobs, it’s important that your resume and the job description match as closely as possible. You won’t get very far in the hiring process if you’re applying to a job as a chef but your resume says your background is in nursing. That’s an extreme example, but even if you have a more relevant work history, you likely won’t get an interview if your resume lacks the keywords and phrases that the employer is looking for. The problem is, determining exactly what your resume needs isn’t always easy.
That’s why iHire created the Job X-rayTM tool to help.
What is Job X-ray?
Job X-ray takes the guesswork out of determining if your resume is a good match for a particular job. Using iHire’s iScore Resume Match technology, Job X-ray highlights the matching and missing keywords within the job description itself, so you can see exactly where and why your resume lines up or falls short.
While iScore Resume Match tells you what skills you’re missing and how in-demand they are in your industry, Job X-ray shows you those skills in the context of the job description. This makes it easier to see how your resume stacks up, and you’ll better understand why the employer is looking for those skills and how they’ll be utilized. iHire Premium members have unlimited access to Job X-ray, and Basic members can try it for free with one job ad.

How to Use iHire’s Job X-ray Tool
Using Job X-ray is extremely easy. When looking at a job description that you’re interested in, you’ll see an option near the top to toggle on Job X-ray. Clicking that starts the process and gives you a quick count of the skills that match your resume and the skills you’re missing, indicated by a green and red circle, respectively.
You also have the option to choose which of your resumes that you already have on file you want to compare to the job description. Select the appropriate resume from the drop-down menu, and you’ll see an updated count of your matching and missing skills.
Next, look at the job description itself – you’ll notice some words are highlighted green and others are highlighted red. Those are the corresponding skills that you do or don’t have in your resume. If you see a lot of green, that’s great! It means your resume matches the job description well and will likely make it past any automated Applicant Tracking Systems (ATSs) so that you can land an interview. If you see a lot of red, don’t worry. Take a look at the skills highlighted in red, and if you possess those skills, add them to your resume to increase your chances of getting the job.
It’s as easy as that. Ensuring that your resume and the job description match is one of the best ways to make it to the interviewing stage, and Job X-ray is built to help make it easier to see any discrepancies.
