iHire Addresses Healthcare Recruiting Ailments at 2019 ASHHRA Conference

51.4% of healthcare HR professionals struggle to acquire qualified, relevant talent, according to iHire’s 2019 State of Online Recruiting Report

Frederick, Maryland – Sept. 20, 2019 – More than half of healthcare HR professionals struggle to hire qualified, relevant talent, iHire found in its 2019 State of Online Recruiting Report and Survey. iHire is addressing this ailment and offering insights into the healthcare job market at the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration (ASHHRA)’s 55th Annual Conference & Exposition, held Sept. 21–24, 2019, in Chicago. The recruiting technology provider’s guidance is also found in its new eBook, “Healthcare Hiring: Standing Out in a Tight Labor Market,” now available for download.

Notable healthcare hiring trends and topics discussed in iHire’s eBook include:

  • As of August 2019, iHire reported 610,623 open positions across its 15 healthcare-specific talent communities, with nursing, therapy, physician, medical tech, and pharmaceutical jobs in highest demand. Registered Nurse (RN) was the most popular career title with 154,121 job openings.
  • Along with the 51.4% of healthcare HR professionals in iHire’s survey who cited receiving too many unqualified or irrelevant applicants as their No. 1 online recruiting challenge, 12.8% struggled with candidate communications. Specifically, 7.1% said their top challenge was being “ghosted” by job seekers and 5.7% were pained by applicants who don’t respond when they reach out for an interview.
  • Observing data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), iHire predicts healthcare jobs will continue to grow faster than employers are able to fill them. This is due in part to aging Americans in need of medical care – the population age 65 and older is expected to increase 50% by 2030, according to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

“Record-low unemployment rates are complicating talent acquisition across every industry, but the healthcare market is experiencing some of the biggest impacts,” said Steve Flook, President and CEO, iHire. “To win the war for talent, healthcare HR professionals need to explore new strategies and tactics to set themselves apart from the competition and attract qualified applicants faster. Building a strong employer brand, pipelining runner-up candidates, and using industry-specific job boards are all great places to start.”
